Sea Scan is committed to impart training in consistent manner aiming for continual improvement of the trainees, their employers, meeting their needs and also of the shipping industry in general.
India has a rich Maritime tradition along coastline and several major and minor ports linking the country to various trading routes and destinations around the world. Indian seafarers have performed extremely well while serving on board ships of Indian or Foreign Flags. The Indian Merchant Navy comprise of a large number of ships, Bulk Carriers, Tankers, Passenger Ships, etc. The Shipping Industry offers the crew lucrative wages for operating and maintaining the ships. Hence, there is a need to equip the crew with theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the changing technology , as well as to inculcate a high degree of adaptability for working on different types of ships and disciplines to effectively contribute to the shipping establishment.
With this aim in mind the Sea Scan Group initially set up an institute at Andheri, Mumbai in 1990, to conduct STCW’95 basic Familiarization and other special courses. Subsequently, in the year 2000, SEA SCAN moved its sphere of activities to Goa and commissioned a similar institute at the Fire Service Grounds, St. Inez, Panjim, Goa. This Marine Training Center is being operated in association with the Directorate of Fire Services,Govt. of Goa.
Expanding its activities further, the SEA SCAN MARITIME FOUNDATION has been set up at Chicalim, Airport Road, Goa to provide much needed pre-sea training to ratings in General Purpose and Maritime Catering disciplines.
